Funeral details announced for Dunboyne man killed in Asia

Funeral arrangements have been announced for the young Meath man who died following an accident in Asia

Matthew Kennedy (21), from Sadlier Hall, Dunboyne was in a coma after a serious motorcycle crash in Vietnam in recent weeks where he had been travelling with friends

The tragic accident occurred in the town of Hoy An and he passed away in hospital in the presence of his parents Gerard and Elaine on July 7th last.

Sympathy was extended to the family of the St Peter's GAA Club member at the July meeting of the Meath (GAA) County Committee on Monday

He was also remembered at Mass in Dunboyne on Sunday. Matthew, who worked in Dublin Airport, was hugely popular and his death has left the village in shock.

He was also well-known and highly regarded for his charity work with Concern Worldwide.

A GoFundMe page which was set up on June 28th to help fund treatment after his accident has raised almost €59,000.

His remains were flown home on Thursday morning and his funeral will take place at the Church of the SS Peter and Paul, Dunboyne on Saturday at 11am followed by burial in New Rooske Cemetery, Dunboyne.

He is survived by his parents Gerard and Elaine, brothers Brian, John and Liam, grandfather Paddy, grandmother Joan, relatives and friends.

Matthew (Dunboyne, Co. Meath) July 7th, 2023, died peacefully in the presence of his parents, after a tragic accident in Vietnam. Beloved son of Gerard and Elaine and dear brother of Brian, John and Liam. Sadly missed by his loving mother, father, brothers, grandfather Paddy, grandmother Joan, aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives and his large circle of friends.

Reposing at his home on Friday (14th July) from 4pm to 8pm. Removal to the Church of S. S. Peter and Paul, Dunboyne on Saturday (15th July) arriving for Requiem Mass at 11am followed by burial in New Rooske Cemetery. Matthew’s Funeral Mass may be viewed (live only) by following this LINK.
