Pride of Place County Awards: ‘The efforts made today create the communities of tomorrow’

The County Meath Pride of Place awards were held in the Solstice Arts Centre on Thursday, 17th November with 220 attendees present. The awards mark the end of another year of hard work by voluntary groups in their local Municipal Districts.

The evening was MC’d by Sinead Brassill from LMFM and everyone was thoroughly entertained by harpist Grace Nally from Trim, The Voculeles from Dunshaughlin and Gluais from Trim.

Cathaoirleach of Meath County Council, Cllr. Nick Killian, warmly welcomed the guests who represented the groups taking part in the initiative this year, congratulating each of them on their nominations, saying “The work that you are doing is vital in the development of strong communities. Strong communities keep us safe and support us when things are difficult, they rally around when things are tough and celebrate together when things are good. The efforts you make today will create the communities of tomorrow and that is why it is so important that we encourage and set an example to the young people within each of our communities, so that this work can continue and indeed be built upon. The new ideas and enthusiasm that they bring can also teach us a thing or two.”

Meath County Council Chief Executive, Ms. Jackie Maguire, thanked the groups for the vital work undertaken out of dedication to their communities. Ms Maguire also noted how this work had been recognised at national level acknowledging Trim Tidy Towns recent success in the National Tidy Towns competition, “this is the 4th time that Trim has received this honour having previously held the title in 1972 and 1984 and they were joint winners in 1974. In goes without saying that Trim was well-deserving of this national honour. I would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to the Trim Tidy Towns Committee and thank the staff of Trim MD for all their efforts in assisting the Tidy Towns Committee and to thank all who have contributed in a very meaningful way. It is not only a huge result for Trim but for Meath.”

Meath County Council want to wish the very best of luck to the following groups who will be representing Meath at the Co-Operation Ireland National Pride of Place awards in The Clayton Hotel, Dublin on Saturday, January 21, 2023, Old Balreask Woods Community Garden and Estate in the Community Wellbeing Initiative, Kilbride Tidy Towns in the population 0-300 category and Dunshaughlin Tidy Towns in the population 2000–5000 category.

Finally, the Council would like to congratulate all the groups that were nominated across the County for this year’s Pride of Place awards.
