Cortown NS's Dara Loughran was a winner on the treble last week as he picked up the prestigious Mikey Leddy Perpetual Spirit of the Final award to add to his Spirit of the Final prize from the Boys Div 5 final and his winning medal following the Meath Primary Schools finals at Pairc Tailteann.
Loughran played a starring role for Cortown as they edged out Killyon in a thrilling Boys Div 5 final by 4-18 to 6-6, but it was just his personal return of 2-11 that impressed it was his approach and attitude and willingness to put his body on the line in the closing stages that earned the Cortown pupil the overall Spirit of the Final award.
Loughran was one of 12 players who stood out at the Meath Primary Schools to pick up awards from special guests Meath Ladies senior manager Eamonn Murray and All-Ireland winning captain Shauna Ennis, while Mikey Leddy's mother aisling was on hand to present the Perpetual award named in honour of her son who died tragically in 2018, three years after himself winning a Spirit of the Final award.
The other winners of the Spirit of the Final awards were: Cormac Fitzsimons (St Paul's Navan), Lauren Mooney (Kilcloon), Patrick Monaghan (Bohermeen), Eleanor Fallon (Bohermeen), John Killoran (Baconstown), Ruby NicDhonaill (Gaelscoil Eanna), Ewan Gilsenan (Moynalty), Holly Sharkey (Baconstown), Shauna Kate Smyth (Castletown), Daire McMahon (St Declan's Ashbourne) and Olivia Ryan (St Paul's Ratoath).
