All’s well at Rathfeigh NS ‘Hideaway’

Minister for Justice, Helen McEntee, along with Josepha Madigan, Minister of State for Special Education and Inclusion, and Cllr Suzanne Jamal of Meath County Council visited Rathfeigh National School last week to see the well-being and mindfulness initiatives that the school has implemented over the last year

Rathfeigh’s sensory room, ‘The Hideaway’, is a low-stress, quiet and calm place where the children can relax and gain control of their emotions.

The development of the sensory room in Rathfeigh NS shows what can be achieved on a relatively low budget. In addition to the sensory room, the school has acquired the services of Una Curran, a mindfulness/well-being teacher, who has delivered mindfulness/well-being classes to all the children in Rathfeigh NS from juniors to sixth class, and will be returning for the 2022/23 school year.

The board of management of Rathfeigh NS extended gratitude to Cllr Jamal for her contribution to the school as part of her Municipal District Allocation Fund, adding that the money will be invaluable to the school, used to further develop the mindfulness/well-being initiatives in the school.
