Wednesday last saw the official opening of Rathfeigh National School's sensory room, 'The Hideaway', a safe place to help children with sensory, social, emotional concerns and overall wellbeing. As a result children are better prepared for learning and interacting with others.
To fundraise the pupils ran a marathon. With the proceeds from the marathon and the goodwill of Paul O’Boyle, Joe Vaughan, Stephanie Reynolds (staff member and artist) and Bryan Morgan (Total Sensory Solutions), The Hideaway, came into being.
As an extension to this project Una Curran of Wellbeing was invited to work with all pupils in Rathfeigh to teach techniques on how to calm the body and mind.
'The Hideaway’ was named by pupil Lucy Callaghan and the pupils are reaping the benefits of it.
