Meade savours Group 1 success at the Curragh
What a day for trainer Noel Meade - winning his first Group 1 race on the flat at the Curragh today with Helvic Dream.
The Group 1 Tattersalls Gold Cup with a horse he bought from Joanna Morgan.
There will be a Gold Cup on display in Castletown this evening.
"I've been second in the Guineas twice, placed in Classics and placed in Group 1 races, fourth in the Epsom Derby, but that's the first Group 1 winner," he commented in a brief post-race RTE interview with Brian Gleeson.
"Look, it means a lot, last year there was a lot of money put on the table for him (winning horse Helvic Dream) but I said to the lads why don't we keep him and try and win a Group 1.
"Tom Hendrom (one of the owners) sent me over a list of the four races that we could go for at the start of this season.
"So, we said right we'll go there and hopefully the ground will come right for us.
"You wouldn't have though that a month ago you would get soft gorund at the end of May.
"Colin (Keane) said going out that I'll have one pop with him at the end and see how it goes.
"Colin is a lovely fellow, you know what you see is what you get, he's a smashing chap, he's a credit to his family and to everyone who has had anytiing to do with him.
"Great for the owners down in Waterford, I bought him from Joanna Morgan and he wasn't expensve, he cost €12,000.
"Finbarr Cahill (one of the owners) has been with me a long, long time so it's a great result for everyone," he concluded.
