Smart electricity meters roll out continues in Navan

As the roll out of 'smart' electricity meters continues across the country, Navan households are among the 250,000 homes that have had already had the new technology installed.

The Smart Meter services have now gone live for the first time in Ireland and households in parts of Navan, one of the few areas in the country with smart electricity meters installed, can now avail of new technology

The National Smart Metering Programme will ultimately see ESB Networks replace 2.4 million electricity meters with next generation Smart Meters. As part of the programme, all households in Ireland will receive a Smart Meter and once installed, they will be able to experience the benefits of the new technology.

Launched in 2020, the programme is designed to support homes, businesses and communities to maximise energy efficiency and collectively contribute towards a low carbon future.

The areas where they roll out has already taken place includes Navan, Drogheda, parts of Dublin, Sligo, Limerick, Cork City, Bandon and Portlaoise.

Households receive a communication from ESB Networks when the Smart Meter is installed.

Marguerite Sayers, Executive Director, Electric Ireland, said: “At Electric Ireland we see Smart Meters at the forefront of enabling customers to make positive changes in addressing climate action. We are delighted to bring this service at a time when reducing household costs is of upmost importance.”
