Aldi Ireland seeking more supermarket sites in Meath

Stores in Dunshaughlin and Sutton will open before the end of March 2021

As Aldi Ireland continues to work on its Dunshaughlin store, the supermarket chain has announced it is seeking new sites for potential future stores in the greater Dublin area, including counties Kildare, Meath and Wicklow, to add to its network of 144 stores across Ireland.

Aldi is seeking freehold town-centre or nearby edge-of-centre sites suitable for retail development (minimum 0.8 acres). Ideally, sites would be located on a prominent main road with good visibility and access for customers. Aldi is also interested in leasing new or existing space in retail parks, purchasing or leasing space in district centres, or existing retail premises.

Aldi opened a new store this month in Rathnew, Co Wicklow and will also open a new store in Blanchardstown, Co Dublin during November. Stores in Dunshaughlin, and in Sutton, Co Dublin will follow before the end of March 2021. Recruitment is now under way for each store, with over 40 positions per store available.

Niall O’Connor, Aldi Group managing director, said: “We are working to double our footprint of stores within Dublin, adding to the 22 we already have and bringing our unbeatable prices and value to more and more families. We have identified a number of suitable sites but are very interested in learning about other options in the Greater Dublin Area. We are offering a 1.5 per cent fee for suitable referrals.”

Aldi employs over 4,500 people and operates a network of 144 stores across the country, with stores in each county in the Republic of Ireland.

Aldi currently stocks over 1,800 products and works with over 200 Irish suppliers across Ireland. In addition to this, Aldi has invested more than €2,500,000 in its Grow with Aldi supplier development programme since 2018, which provides an opportunity to Irish food and drink companies to gain a listing in Aldi’s 144 stores.

Aldi works with a number of national charities including FoodCloud, Irish Cancer Society, Community Games and Foróige, as well as with local communities and charities across Ireland in donating Community Grants to help fund local causes, and is the official supermarket of the IRFU and sponsor of Aldi Play Rugby, a programme that encourages school children to lead healthy, active lifestyles.
