Cross-country event for Culmullen NS in 10th year

Culmullen National School has announced details of its fundraising cross-country run, which takes place on Saturday 30th October, and is celebrating its 10th year. At 12.30pm on that date, in the warm-up area beside Culmullen Church, there will be the high gate competition where the winning horse will receive €200. The same horse must take part fully in the cross-country chase to receive the prizemoney. A cup of tea will greet participants in the hall immediately after completion, with a full video, photograph and prizegiving in Caffrey’s of Batterstown at 8pm. The event for the Drumree school was championed by John Brady in 2000, in a part of Meath with big jumping countryside which has contributed to the world class equine reputation of the area, where many are successfully involved in breeding, training, showing, hunting, team chase and National Hunt racing. A number of experienced local riders prepare the route in advance to make sure that natural hazards are minimised and the places picked to jump are the safest possible. In addition, a number of upright jumps will be made and included en route to add a variety of jumping to the eight-mile natural cross-country course. Every effort has been made to ensure that if a rider cannot cross a ditch that a gate or alternative opening is available to allow both horse and rider continue. The annual event cannot happen without the generous support of the landowners and the sponsors and all the volunteer help associated with the event, to whom gratitude is extended on behalf of Culmullen National School.
