Poignant remembrance on charity cycle

Navan Road Club's recent 'Ballivor or Bust' charity cycle raised over €1,000 for the Aftercare Research Counselling (ARC) Cancer Support Centre. The cycle started in Navan and went throguh Kells, Athboy, Trim before reaching Ballivor. En route, the group of cyclists stopped at Ardbraccan Cemetery, just outside Navan, to lay a wreath at the graveside of former colleague and friend, Ciaran Harte. Ciaran's wife, Celine, and good friend of the club, Liam Harte, were also present. Ciaran was a wonderful supporter of the ARC Centre and took part in the Cuba Cycle Challenge on two occasions. Over the years, club members have raised over €200,000 for the centre through local events and foreign cycles in places like Cuba, South Africa, California and other destinations around the world. The ARC Centre was founded in 1994 and offers professional support to people affected by cancer and those who care for them, regardless of where they live. That evening, the Ballivor Grand Prix race took place with over 50 cyclists from all over Ireland taking part. The winner was Dublin cyclist Tiernach Murphy and he received the Ciaran Harte Cup, presented by Celine. The Noel Dempsey Trophy was also presented on the night and Navan Road Club have thanked all who supported both events, in particular sponsors Olivia and John McKeown and McLoughlin's Lounge, Ballivor.
