Delicate matter workshop in athlone

Athlone Arts and Tourism hosts a one-day workshop on Saturday 22nd August with poet Maggie O’Dwyer and artist Liz Nilsson. Drawing inspiration from the current exhibition, Delicate Matter, at Luan Gallery, memory will be explored through simple writing and drawing exercises.

The Light as a Feather workshop will adopt a playful, spontaneous approach where the process of creating is more important than the end result meaning no previous drawing or writing experience is necessary for participants.

Administrator Emma Finneran says: “This will be a new sort of workshop for us here at Luan Gallery, one where intuition and organic development will take precedence over teaching. A casual and relaxed approach to mark making and poetry will see special and personal responses emerge. It is aimed at those interested in writing and drawing and will be especially useful for those who seek to get the creative juices flowing! Places are limited so I would advise anyone interested to contact the gallery as soon as possible for further details and to reserve a place on the course before it books up!”

Swedish artist Liz Nilsson is currently showing works comprising one third of Luan Gallery’s Delicate Matter exhibition. The show which runs until 30th August is receiving excellent public reviews with Nilsson’s work in particular, delighting and provoking emotional reactions from gallery visitors. Nilsson approaches her practice with careful methodology, attentively choosing materials and techniques to express her interests in repetition and memory. She incorporates print, tactile mark making, photography and drawing in installations, printed compositions and performances. This is a special opportunity to spend a day working with an established artist and poet in what promises to be an inspirational, reflective, and meditative day of creative expression.

Booking is essential as there are only 10 places available, €15 per participant. Contact Luan Gallery reception on (0906) 442154.
