Navan O'Mahonys pays tribute to Jim Cahill

Navan O'Mahonys GAA has paid tribute to club president, Jim Cahill, who died yesterday.

Jim had a lifelong association with the club and with Gaelic Games, representing Meath on the minor team in 1949/50.

He managed an O'Mahonys senior football team to a county final appearance in 1970 and served as a selector in various other years.

Jim served the club as an administrator with great distinction. He served as chairman for seven years over three different terms, including in 1985 when the Keegan and Jubilee Cups were won by the Brews Hill side.

"As well as his massive dedication to the club, Jim will be warmly remembered for his regard for all he encountered and his gentlemanly manner," O'Mahony's stated.

Jim died peacefully on Tuesday in the care of the staff of Knightsbridge Nursing Home, Trim. Pre-deceased by his parents James and Kathleen and brother Brendan, he is survived by his wife, Ruth, brother Frank, sisters Anna, Marie and Cora, brothers-in-law Leslie, Oliver, Noel and John, sisters-in-law Margaret, Susan, Marie and Gillian, nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and his Navan O'Mahony's family.

A family Funeral Service will be held for Jim on Friday at 10.30am in St. Mary's Church, Navan. This can be viewed on the parish website at www.navanparish.ie/webcam .

"We offer our deepest sympathies to his wife Ruth, his sisters Anna, Marie and Cora, his brother Frank, his nieces and nephews and his wide circle of friends. Codladh sámh, a chara. Though we cannot come together as a club to grieve with Jim's family, they will remain in our thoughts and prayers at this time," O Mathuna stated.
