‘Leave the country’ judge tells Romanian nationals
Four Romanian men who arrived in Ireland from England 12 days prior to carrying out thefts in counties Meath and Laois, a court has heard.
None of the men has any address here and were listed as “no fixed address” when they appeared at Navan District Court. They were named as Suraj Cionstantin (45), Adrian Necula (21), Ilie Manciu (19) and George Enache (21). Constantin, Enache and Manciu were charged with theft of 200 bottles of Lynx Africa fragrance valued at €898 at Lidl Portlaoise on 5th April last; possession of a foil-lined bag used in thefts on 16th April; theft of groceries and tools valued €2,106 at Lidl, Athboy Road, Trim on 7th April and driving without insurance on the N2 Slane on 16th April. Necula was charged with possession of a foil-lined bag.
Garda Eamonn O’Connor who gave evidence of arrest said that the men had all given false names and addresses.
Judge Eirinn McKiernan sentenced three of the men to four months imprisonment suspended for 18 months and told them to leave the jurisdiction within 24 hours. Constantin was sent to prison for four months.
Solicitor Maurice Regan represented the defendants in court.
