Celebrate Meath’s Community and Sporting Heroes with us
The Meath Chronicle Community and Sports Awards in partnership with Specsavers and Bective Stud is officially open to entries.
Evolving from the Meath Sports Awards started more than 20 years ago where some of the biggest names in and Irish and International sport have been recognised and honoured in their home county, the event now combines a dedicated Community Awards aimed at recognising so many of our unsung local heroes.
This celebration on Thursday 21st May in partnership with Specsavers and Bective Stud was launched on Monday morning in the Darnley Lodge Hotel in Athboy, which will also host the prestigious event.
In the Community Section in partnership with Specsavers, we will hail the Volunteer of the Year, Green Project of the Year, Carer of the Year, Community Group of the Year and Best School Project and Overall Community Award Winner.
Sport categories in partnership with Bective Stud will see awards presented for Young Sports Star of the Year, Outstanding Achievement, Hall of Fame, Team of the Year and Overall of Sportsperson of the Year.
Meath County Council, Meath Local Sports Partnership, Meta, Aura Leisure in Trim and Navan have all returned to support this prestigious event. And we're delighted to announce AXA as new sponsor this year.
Last Year Vikki Wall, Meath and AFL football star was crowned Overall Sportsperson of the Year while the Overall Community Award Winners was the 'Towards Inclusion' project with Mercy Secondary School and St Ultan's Special School. Meath Chronicle editor, Gavan Becton, encouraged readers to get nominating and said it was "an incredible honour to be able to celebrate the achievements of the county's sporting stars and community heroes." "The Meath Sports Awards always held such a special place on the county's sporting calendar but transforming it last year to include the Community heroes who do so much to enrich our county proved to be a wonderful, uplifting occasion.
"Of course, the awards would not be possible without the invaluable input of our sponsors. We are delighted that Specsavers and Bective Stud are on board as principal sponsors and it speaks volumes that Meath County Council, Meath LocaL Sports Partnership, Meta, Aura Leisure in Trim and Navan and AXA, as well as the Darnley Lodge return to support this prestigious event."
