Woman (70s) charged after €420,000 cocaine seizure in Drogheda

A woman in her 70s has been charged following the seizure of cocaine worth an estimated €420,000 during a Garda operation in Drogheda.

The drugs were discovered when Gardaí attached to the Louth/Cavan/Monaghan Divisional Drugs Unit carried out a search of a residential property in Drogheda on Monday, 9th March as part of ongoing investigations targeting the sale and supply of drugs and related criminal activity.

During the search, Gardaí seized approximately 6kg of cocaine, with an estimated street value of €420,000, pending analysis.

A woman in her 70s was arrested at the scene and detained at a Garda station in County Louth under the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.

She has since been charged and was due to appear before a sitting of Dundalk District Court on Tuesday morning.

Gardaí say investigations into the matter are ongoing.
