Moors see off neighbours in Feis Cup clash
Donaghmore/Ashbourne 2-13
Ratoath 1-14
Moments after Ratoath took a slender lead, Darragh O’Sullivan found the back of the net down in the last piece of action to win this Feis cup clash on Monday.
After six minutes Mathew Crumlish opened the scoring for the visitors before Eamon Wallace brought Ratoath level. A long-range Bryan McMahon effort came up short but was flicked into the net. Michael O’Sullivan responded with a minor for the eventual winners.
The home side seized momentum and hit 0-8 on the spin. Darragh McGovern ended the rut with a superbly struck goal in the 27th minute before Michael O’Sullivan reduced the gap back to five just before half-time.
Donaghmore/Ashbourne had a bright start to the second-half when Kevin Cully raised an orange flag. Ratoath regained their half-time lead with two consecutive converted frees. The sides continued to trade scores as Andrew Tormey and Kevin Fenton added their names to the scoresheet for the away side.
In the closing stages, two two-pointers from Sean Tyrell and Jamie Browne brought Donaghmore/Ashbourne back to within two points of the lead before Feton reduced the gap to the minimum.
Kilian Hogan’s point in the 58th minute left nothing between the sides but Ratoath had one last sting in the tail left. Ben Weir fisted over in the 61st minute which regained the lead for Kevin Daly’s side.
Donaghmore/Ashbourne had to go on the offensive, and after a scramble in front of the Ratoath goal-mouth, Daragh O’Sullivan managed to direct the ball into the net which sealed a second-round Feis Cup win for the perennial champions of the competition.
