Building brighter futures with local education
Glenveagh sowing the seeds for prosperous futures through local grassroots engagement programmme
Supporting communities from an early starting point is a crucial step in building prosperous and connected neighbourhoods for the future. As one of Ireland’s leading homebuilders, Glenveagh is already paving the way forward to this future with several engagement programmes across grassroots groups underway.
With a keen commitment to building more than just homes, but successful communities across Ireland, Glenveagh is taking an active role in spurring an awareness in the important elements of community development starting from a young age, from safety to biodiversity.
Safety is paramount in all walks of life, but particularly in urban areas as more housing schemes evolve to provide vital supply to meet the needs of our growing population. Glenveagh is dedicated to ensuring the safety of all involved in construction works, as well as local residents in close proximity to ongoing works.
As part of its Building Lasting Communities initiative, Glenveagh offers Construction Site Safety talks in areas where schemes are underway. These Construction Site talks involve Glenveagh representatives visiting local schools nationally and speaking with schoolchildren about site safety, with opportunities for children to ask questions and gain a better understanding of the importance of safety around construction sites.
Beyond this initiative, Glenveagh’s work to promote site safety among children is furthered at a national scale through a partnership with Health & Safety Publications Ltd with their Sam & Sue children’s books series. Launched in September 2021, the individual Sam & Sue Learn About Construction Site Safety book acts to educate more children across Ireland about staying protected near construction areas and aligns with Glenveagh’s commitment to health and safety.
Since the partnership began in 2021, Glenveagh has undertaken site safety talks across 58 primary schools in counties including in Meath, Dublin and Kildare, providing construction site safety talks to over 3,300 children and distributing over 1,000 copies of these light-hearted, educational books.
Supporting biodiversity is also core to Glenveagh’s community engagement programme, through partnerships including the Nature Hero Awards with Biodiversity in Schools. As Ireland’s largest outdoor learning awards in the education sector, the Nature Hero Awards aim to create an educational space that nurtures a love for nature, develops a knowledge of biodiversity and encourages action to help its development.
Open to pre, primary and secondary level schools across the Republic of Ireland, the Nature Hero Awards are focused on participation and strengthening relationships with nature. The awards are a mark of excellence for schools and recognise the exceptional work by young students and teachers to help biodiversity. In addition to sponsoring the awards, Glenveagh has also activated local bootcamps across Meath to build participation among schoolchildren and foster an appreciation for surrounding ecological habitats.
Glenveagh’s commitment to community engagement goes beyond primary and second-level education. Much like its commitment to support grassroots communities, the homebuilder is actively fostering the way to successful futures with third-level students through its Corporate Partnership with Maynooth University.
From supporting accessible mentorship programmes and highlighting career pathways into the construction industry to strengthening tutoring initiatives and ensuring equal access to education opportunities, Glenveagh is adopting a hands-on approach to supporting students both in Meath and around the country.
Ensuring the sustained development of connected communities is a core value to Glenveagh. With a wide range of local engagement programmes and supporting partnerships, the homebuilder is helping to unlock the potential of prosperous communities across Ireland and is building for a brighter future together.
