Filling station owners appeal condition attached to use of controversial car wash

The operator of the Go 24-Hour filling station in Dunshaughlin is appealing a condition attached to the recent grant of retention permission by Meath County Council which stipulates that the car wash can only operate between 8am and 8pm.

The council recently granted planning permission to Lissan Coal Company for retention of alterations to the existing filling station at Navan Road, Cookstown, Dunshaughlin subject to planning conditions.

A number of submissions had been received on the planning application from residents of Manorlands estate at the rear of the development who, among other issues, highlighted the impact of noise and light overspill from the car wash.

In response, among the conditions attached to the grant of permission by Meath County Council was that the car wash would only operate between 8am and 8pm.

However, residents recently highlighted in Meath Chronicle ongoing issues in relation to the car wash at the filling station due to this planning condition not being adhered to and claimed it continued to operate 24 hours a day.

Now Lissan Coal Company has lodged a first party appeal to an Coimisiún Pleanála seeking that this condition be amended.

They want the hours of the car wash to be aligned with the opening hours of the shop which is 6am to 11pm, Monday to Sunday.

The applicant contends that these opening hours would not have an adverse impact on the existing levels of residential amenity within the immediate area.
