Chalk Talk Gallery: Cannistown NS claimed first place at the regional Cumann na mBunscol sports table quiz
Cannistown National School claimed first place at the regional Cumann na mBunscol sports table quiz, hosted at St Oliver Plunkett NS, Navan last week. The event brought together four primary schools from County Meath in a competitive test of sporting knowledge, with Cannistown securing top score and a place in the upcoming county final.
After ten rounds of challenging sports-themed questions, Cannistown NS finished at the top of the leaderboard with 56 points out of a possible 80.
Also taking part were Scoil Eoin Baiste from Nobber, Rathmore NS, St Oliver Plunkett NS and Kiltale NS. Pupils faced questions covering Gaelic games, Irish sporting history and international sport, with a difficult picture round concluding the quiz.
Quizmaster duties were carried out by Principal Padraig Farrell of St Oliver Plunkett NS, with scoring managed by teachers Declan Kearns and Ms Tunney. The event was held under the banner of Cumann na mBunscol, the national body for Gaelic games in primary schools.
“It was a fantastic morning in our school hall as we welcomed teams from Cannistown, Rathmore, Kiltale and Nobber,” Principal Padraig Farrell said. “There was a great variety of questions, and the picture round at the end really tested them — but the standard was very high, and the students did remarkably well.
“There’s plenty more Cumann na mBunscol activity coming up too, with hurling and camogie leagues starting soon, and the boys’ and girls’ football Sevens. It will be great to get back training again.”
Both Cannistown NS and St Oliver Plunkett NS will now go on to represent their region in the Meath county finals, scheduled to take place next week.
