Shiel names squad as All-Ireland Camogie fixtures revealed
Meath will kick off their 2026 All-Ireland Intermediate Camogie campaign against Westmeath.
New manager Stehen Shiel and the rest of his team found out Meath’s path in the All-Ireland Intermediate camogie championship when the fixtures were released by the Association on Tuesday.
The Royals will begin their campaign with a trip to at home against their neighbours Westmeath on the weekend of the 23rd/24th of May before two away trips to Laois and Carlow on the first and second weekends in June.
Meath had a relatively poor 2025 results-wise but their finest hour came in their opening round All-Ireland series clash with the same opposition that they will kick off their campaign against this year. Aoife Carey scored 1-7 and Isabel O’Connor hit a brace of goals in an emphatic, stunning win for the Royals last June over Wetmeath.
Unfortunately for Anton O’Neill and the rest of the Meath squad and supporters, it was all downhill for the camogs after that as losses to Offaly, Antrim and Down followed. Shiel will be hoping his side can kick off their All-Ireland series campaign with a win but after the 2025 meeting, Westmeath have a point to prove against the Royals.
After that contest with their neighbours, Meath will face relatively unfamiliar opponents in the form of the newly promoted Laois. The Na Fianna representatives on the Meath panel along with selector Niall Burk will recognise a few faces as the Laois set-up will include members from the Camross side that defeated Na Fianna in the Leinster Club Intermediate final.
The Royals will then travel to Carlow for their final encounter in the series. In 2024, during Gary Cole and Tom Maloney’s time in charge Meath had a fantastic All-Ireland Intermediate camogie championship win over Carlow. That victory was spearheaded by a brilliant performance from Oliva O’Halloran who finished with 0-9 while Grace Coleman found the back of the Carlow net twice.
