Longford man convicted of dangerous driving and motor offences has four months added to current sentence
A 28 year-old man from Longford serving a nine month jail sentence, had a further four months added to it at Trim District Court on Thursday.
Dylan Conaghy from Edgeworthstown was taken before the court for sentence after being convicted in his absence of dangerous driving and other motor offences including not having motor insurance.
Judge Eirinn McKiernan heard that the defendant had 76 previous convictions, including eight for dangerous driving, five in respect of motor insurance and two for drink driving.
Among the penalties he previously received was an 18 year driving ban.
He was sentenced the previous Thursday to nine months imprisonment and was due for release next July.
His solicitor Miriam Regan said the defendant had historical and serious drug misuse difficulty. He was on methadone, and asked the Judge not to extend his prison term.
Judge McKiernan said she was not doing that, given the defendant’s previous convictions.
She sentenced him to four months jail, ordering it to run consecutive to the term he was serving on the dangerous driving charge. She also imposed a six year driving ban on him.
