Jamestown bog road closed for resurfacing
The road adjacent to Jamestown Bog in Tullaghanstown off the main Navan-Athboy road is closed this week for urgent resurfacing works.
The L-4000 at Tullaghanstown was recently described by local residents as "treacherous" with one huge hump in the middle of the road causing major problems.
The road is closed from its junction with N51 to its junction with L-8009-0/L-8004-8 since Tuesday with work expected to be complete on Friday.
The road is closed from 9.30am to 4.30pm each day and local diversion and information signs are in place.
Access for residents and property holders will be facilitated throughout the closure period.
Cllr Noel French said he was delighted to see the work underway. "That road is like a rollercoaster. It is a bad stretch of road and needs work. It is on the bog and it sinks. There was a job done on it five years ago and it was alright, but then it sank again and we were back to the same situation. It is great the work is now being done, but it needs regular attention," he said.
"I have raised it a number of times. I am familiar with the stretch as I use it to go to Kells," said Cllr French.
Local resident, Pat Gugh was also delighted to see the work underway.
"There were a couple of accidents in the last few years. It is great to see them working on it."
"The road was in a terrible state, sinking away at the sides. At one part, there was a hump about the size of a haycock, you had to go either right or left of it or your car would be destroyed.
"It was very dangerous , particularly if you don't know the road. If you're coming from the Navan road, you won't have built up enough speed, but If you are coming from the Greetiagh direction and you don't know the road, it could be lethal," he said.
