Duleek man who died at Tayto Snacks site to be laid to rest on Saturday

Funeral arrangements have been announced for Michael “Mickey” Herron, the Duleek man who died following a tragic workplace accident at the Tayto Snacks factory in Ashbourne earlier this week.

Mr Herron, aged 60, was an employee of an independent potato supplier and was pronounced dead at the scene on Tuesday morning. His family confirmed he died following a “tragic accident” at the plant.

A death notice said Mickey will be “sadly missed” by his heartbroken wife Ann, children Dylan and Sophie, and by his siblings Jim, Garret, Martina and Nicola. He will also be fondly remembered by his extended family, friends, and neighbours.

Mickey will repose at his home this Friday from 3pm to 7pm. His funeral Mass will take place at 11am on Saturday morning at St Cianan’s Church, Duleek, followed by burial in the Good Shepherd Cemetery.

Tayto Snacks yesterday reiterated its “profound shock and sadness” at the tragedy.

In a statement, the company said Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene promptly and confirmed it is assisting with enquiries, along with the Health and Safety Authority.

“The safety and wellbeing of all who attend on our site is our highest priority,” the statement read.

Managing Director John O’Connor added: “We are devastated by this incident. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and colleagues impacted by this tragic loss of life.”

Meanwhile, a community fundraiser has been launched to support the Herron family in the wake of their sudden and devastating loss.

Organisers said the family’s world has been “forever changed” and that the collection offers people a way to show support in place of sending flowers.

“Any contribution big or small will help lighten the load as they navigate the difficult days ahead,” the appeal reads. “Let’s surround the Herrons with the support they need and show them they’re not alone.”
