Kilbride hungry for more success
LEINSTER CLUB IFC PREVIEW
The scenes in Kilbride two weeks ago after they won the IFC title were something to behold. It has only been two years since they won their JFC title and although the one time dominant force in Meath football did not have to stay too long in the IFC ranks, it has been a long, long time since the club held senior status.
The end of that exodus from the Keegan Cup was marked with huge celebration in the village nestled in between Ratoath, Dunboyne and Ashbourne. Now that incredible journey continues for Anthony Moyles’ side this weekend as they commence their Leinster IFC journey against Ardagh Moydow in Pearse Park on Saturday at 12.30pm. Kilbride will want to keep this train on the tracks for as long as possible and they have the talent within their ranks to continue Meath sides’ decent record in the competition. David O’Leary was fantastic in the IFC final and they have several other serious attacking threats in the likes of Josh Harford and Conor McWeeney.
The celebrations in Kilbride after their triumph in the IFC were matched a week earlier in Longford by Ardagh Moydow who claimed the IFC title for the first time. Their danger men include Longford senior football panelist Diarmuid Farrell and Dylan Coady who scored 1-5 in their IFC final win over Kilashee.
The Leinster Club IFC has not been happy hunting grounds for Longford sides. In fact, it is very rare that a Longford team have even won a game in the competition. The last time a Meath side met a Longford team in the Leinster IFC was two years ago when Rathkenny comfortably dispatched of Kenagh in the quarter-final.
The extra week break after the celebrations will probably help the Longford side to an extent. However, they are going to need a lot more than just an extra bit of recovery time to get the better of Kilbride. Expect a comfortable enough win for Anthony Moyles' men and another day out in Leinster.
