Boo-hermeen family’s fundraiser frights

A FAMILY from Bohermeen have turned their love for decorating around their garden and house for Halloween into a yearly event to raise money for different causes and charities.

Sisters Jennifer and Lucy Herward began creating their own spooky decoration trail over the Covid-19 pandemic as a fun project.

Over the last five years, the decorations surrounding their home have gotten bigger and better, with the whole family, including mother Trish, dad Patrick and two sisters Melissa and Beibhinn, all contributing to creating and helping to put up the fantastic decorations.

A friendly Michael Myers greets you as you begin the Halloween trail!

Last year, Jennifer and Lucy thought of the idea to create a bigger scale display and to ask for donations to their chosen charity, which was the Irish Cancer Society in honour of their aunt who passed away last year.

The family managed to raise over €3,000 for the Irish Cancer Society and have decided to do so again this Halloween.

This year, the family are raising money for a little boy from their local community named Caolan Smyth, who is currently battling leukemia.

The trail comes alive at night with lights and glow in the dark features.

The family make most of the decorations themselves, acquiring mannequins and other props from local sellers and from around the house. An honesty box is also on display in front of the house for those who wish to donate in person.

The fantastic display features life-size horror characters such as Michael Myers from the Halloween movie franchise to a wooden coffin with Dracula inside, handmade by the girls' dad Patrick.

A coven of handmade witches gather around the fire in Bohermeen.

Each year a new decoration is added and the Herwards go all out with lights and even a water feature display. Those who wish to go and enjoy the display are free to do so.

The decorations will stay on display until the first weekend of November.
