Chalk Talk: Open Nights offer 6th Class pupils a taste of life in Meath’s secondary schools

Over the past couple of weeks, secondary schools across County Meath have opened their doors to sixth class pupils, giving them a first-hand look at life in their future classrooms and a taste of everything their local schools have to offer.
These visits are not only exciting for pupils but also a wonderful chance for teachers and current students to showcase what makes their school special and why families should consider enrolling.
At St. Ciaran’s Community School, even the rain couldn’t dampen spirits. “We gave our guests a hearty welcome, and our amazing students guided them around the building, chatting warmly and sharing everything that’s great about St. Ciaran’s!” said a spokesperson.
Meanwhile, Scoil Mhuire Trim welcomed families and pupils to their Open Day. Principal Kerr said, “It was lovely to meet everyone, and we hope everyone enjoyed interacting with our students and staff and got a taste of what life is like here.”
At Ashbourne Community School, the Open Evening on Thursday, 2nd October offered incoming first-year students and their families a vibrant showcase of life at ACS. “It was a fantastic evening,” Gillian Casey, Deputy Principal said.
The Open Night event across Meath highlights the wide range of subjects, activities, and facilities available in each school, with current students proudly demonstrating their work across departments including Science, Business, Wood Technology, Graphics, Engineering, Art, Home Economics, Music and Modern Foreign Languages.
First-years and senior prefects are usually in attendance to represent their schools, an aspiring introduction to the school and a real sense of excitement for those looking forward to joining in 2026.
Application forms and prospectuses are available on school websites or from school receptions.
