Free Waste Disposal to Curb Halloween Bonfires

Throughout the month of October, Meath County Council has organised four Halloween Bulky Waste Drop Off Events in the county to allow people the opportunity to dispose of their bulky waste cleanly and safely.

It is hoped that running these events will encourage people not to use their waste materials for bonfires in the Halloween season.

Meath County Council’s Environmental Awareness Officer Bernadine Carry said: “Halloween bonfires cause serious damage through harmful, toxic smoke polluting the air, injuries from collapsed or exploding fires, costly property damage, and severe environmental harm to soil and green spaces.

“The burning of hazardous materials like plastics, tyres, and gas canisters creates dangerous fumes, poses fire risks to buildings, and leaves behind dangerous debris. Never, ever, give your waste material for use in a bonfire.”

The list of events in October is set out below:

Trim Recycling Centre (Thursday, 9th October to Saturday, 11th October)

Navan Recycling Centre (Wednesday, 15th October to Friday, 17th October)

Thornton’s Dunboyne (Thursday, 16th October to Saturday, 18th October – please note Thornton’s close at 2pm on Saturday)

Kells Recycling Centre (Thursday, 23th October to Saturday, 25th October)

These events are for domestic waste only (couches, bed-frames, chairs, tables, cots, prams, wardrobes, patio furniture etc), and hazardous waste such as paint, oil, mattresses, and greens will not be accepted.

While the event itself is free, a gate fee of €2 applies.
