Summerhill run raises over €61k for Irish Cancer Society

The Anne-Marie Comey Memorial Run in Summerhill raised over €61,877 for the Irish Cancer Society. Anne-Marie sadly passed away on 25th July 2024 following a battle with breast cancer, and the event was held to mark her first anniversary, with almost 900 runners and walkers taking part.

Married to Ray, she was mother of four children, Ryan who is now eight and the triplets Holly, Grace and Max, who are now five.

There was great sadness across a wide area following the untimely death of Anne Marie Comey, Dangan, Summerhill, at the age of 41.

A member of the Farrelly family, Delvin, Co Westmeath, Anne-Marie worked in childcare and following the arrival of the triplets, became a stay-at-home mother of four.

She loved Gaelic games, particularly hurling, and played camogie when younger. She enjoyed exercising and going for walks with her friends and meeting up with them socially.

Ray explains: "We decided to organise a run in her memory and raise much needed funds for the Irish Cancer Society. We ended up raising €61, 877.02. We had lots of wonderful sponsors come on board and we also held a monster raffle which raised a lot of money and we had an auction in the run up where we auctioned off a framed signed Meath jersey, making €10,000, and a signed Meath football from the 1996 All Ireland-winning football team, making €1,200."

Ray thanked everybody who supported and took part in the event, paying tribute to the memory of Anne-Marie and helping the work of the cancer society.
