Funeral arrangements announced for Boardsmill hit-and-run victim
Funeral arrangements have been made for Edward (Ned) McLoughlin, Doolistown, Trim, the 80-year-old cyclist who died following a hit-and-run collision at Boardsmill last Friday.
Mr McLoughlin's remains will be reposing at Heffernan's Funeral Home, High Street, Trim tomorrow (Saturday) from 4pm to 6pm. Funeral Mass will take place in St Brigid's Church, Boardsmill, on Sunday at 1.30pm followed by cremation at Lakelands Crematorium, Cavan Town at 4.30pm.
There was widespread shock and sadness in the Boardsmill and surrounding area to learn of Ned's tragic passing following a hit-and-run collision while out cycling shortly before 10am last Friday morning, 12th September.
Ned was well known for his involvement in athletics in his younger days and he ran in races all over the country with the Na Fianna Athletic Club. After his running days were over he took up cycling as a hobby and way to keep fit and sadly it was while out on a cycle last Friday morning that he was the victim of a hit-and-run collision that claimed his life.
Ned is survived by his partner Thelma, brothers Larry and Bernard, sisters Liz, Josie and Stella, brothers in law, sisters in law, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his brothers Peter and Tiddy.
Meanwhile, a man has been charged in connection with the fatal hit-and-run and appeared in Trim District Court yesterday (Thursday) where he was remanded in custody with consent to bail.
Piotr Broniarczyk (42), from Prezmiero in Poland was charged with three hit and run offences which include failing to remain at the scene of an accident, failing to report the incident, and failing to give assistance to 80-year-old Ned McLoughlin from Trim.
The accused was remanded in custody with consent to bail under the conditions of lodging €10,000 in cash fixed maturity, and signs on to Trim Garda Station on the first Monday of every month.
