Sharper cutting edge vital for the Robins
YOUTHS TEDDY SEERY CUP
There was no shortage of entertaining, end-to-end football served up by both sides in this NERL Youths Teddy Seery Cup final at the MDL on Sunday with Robinstown displaying the kind of cutting edge every team needs to get over the line and win games that matter.
The Robins could hardly have made a better start in this engaging contest when Isabelle Fitzgerald found the net early on with a piledriver from distance.
Conjuring up a series of clever, passing moves, Robinstown continued to threaten and on the 25 minute mark they added further to their account when Aisling McElwaine latched on to a pass and put her side 2-0 up - and that's how it stayed at the break.
With the benefit of a sturdy breeze in the second-half Torro ramped up the pressure but the Robinstown players held out. Until that is Torro finally found a way through, scoring a goal direct from a corner kick. The game was set up for a close finish.
With their victory under threat Robinstown rediscovered a new momentum and after 80 minutes all their efforts were rewarded when Emma Kosturik was quickest to react and convert a chance to seal the win.
This was an excellent team display by Robinstown with goalkeeper Hollie O'Connor picked out as their player of the match. Team captain Sophie Brady accepted the trophy on behalf of her victorious colleagues.
