David McLoughlin has been Moynalvey’s top scorer this year.

Moynalvey expected to cruise into last four

Moynalvey are very much deserving favourites to go all the way, but first they will have to negotiate the tricky quarter-final test of near neighbours Dunsany at Dunganny on Sunday, 12pm, writes Tom Gannon.

They have been very impressive and they look like a senior side operating in the IFC ranks. Barry O’Keefe’s charges maintained a 100% record in a competitive Group A and the last day out, St Patrick’s, who are a very good IFC side in their own right were no match for the men in maroon.

Moynalvey’s attack is very potent. Mark O’Sullivan can hit two-pointers for fun as can David McLoughlin. Cillian O’Sullivan is still a massive threat to any defence, Craig Gilsenan and Padraic Harnan have a great partnership in midfield. At the moment, it is very hard to find chinks in the Moynalvey armour.

All credit to Dunsany, they have done very well to reach the knock-out stages in their first IFC campaign. Maintaining their status was always going to be the goal for Kevin Cahill’s side and they've achieved that without breaking too much of a sweat.

They were a bit fortunate to be drawn into a weakish group, but they don’t look like a side that should be battling relegation either.

Dunsany are fully deserving of their spot in the quarter-final, but it’s a huge ask for them to progress any further, especially against a team who have their eyes on the prize this year.

Out of the four quarter-final clashes, this is probably the most straightforward one and anything other than a Moynalvey victory would be a huge shock.

Prediction - Moynalvey.
