Castletown on course to beat the Drums
IFC QUARTER-FINAL PREVIEW
Moynalvey may be warm favourites to go all the way but Castletown are not a million miles off them and they are fancied to take a step closer when they face Drumbaragh in the IFC semi-finals at Moynalty on Sunday evening, writes Tom Gannon.
Castletown are a very solid team and their clash with Navan O’Mahonys was probably the game of the championship so far. It was a real good test that ebbed and flowed. O’Mahonys almost staged a good comeback but Castletown had the answers and they dug deep to grind out the victory.
It’s games like that that really improve a side and Justin Carry Lynch’s team will come away stronger from that battle.
Castletown are an all-round very well-balanced team. Rian McConnell was exceptional that night in Simonstown against O'Mahonys. Adam Matthews' work rate is phenomenal. Darragh Weldon and Declan Cribbin are able to cause any full-back line in Meath a headache and Killian Price is at the forefront of a very solid defence.
Drumbaragh are certainly deserving of the quarter-final spot but even though they got the victory, their performance against Curraha the last day in a must-win game was a bit of a head-scratcher.Curraha had really struggled in the previous rounds and Drumbaragh only won that game by a point. They are coming up against a team with real IFC ambitions and it’s going to be a huge ask for them to progress any further. All credit to Drumbaragh for making it this far but the writing on the wall says that this is the end of the journey for them and Castletown should have no issues progressing to the semi-final.
Prediction - Castletown.
