Communities unite to support local boy battling leukaemia

The communities of Bohermeen and Fordstown are coming together to host a major fundraiser, for a three year old local boy undergoing treatment for leukaemia

‘Caolán’s BBQ Barn Bash’ will take place this Friday, 12th September 12th at Rockfield House and all monies raised will go towards the family of Caolán Smyth, Childhood Cancer Ireland and St John’s Ward in Crumlin Children’s Hospital.

The BBQ Barn Bash will include live music, food and auction expertly MC’d by Dessie Rogers.

Speaking ahead of the event, Gearóid Rennicks, member of the organising committee said: “The response from the local community and businesses has been incredible. This promises to be a brilliant night, but most importantly, it’s about coming together to support Caolán and his family. Every ticket sold and every euro raised will make a real difference.”

Three-year-old Caolán Smyth, a joyful and spirited boy from Fordstown, was diagnosed with Leukemia on 14th April 2025. This devastating news has turned life upside down for his loving parents Conor and Caroline, and his two brothers, Senán and baby, Rían.

Caolán is undergoing intense treatment under the expert care of Crumlin Children’s Hospital and this will be ongoing for two years and nine months .

As his family adjusts to this new reality, his local community want to try help take away any financial strain associated with Caolán’s treatment.

A highlight of the BBQ Barn Bash will be the charity auction featuring a superb line-up of prizes including a bespoke handmade sofa combination made to your preference by Shanley Interiors, worth €5,000, a Rory McIlroy signed Masters tee flag, an exclusive Tara Mines tour, a behind-the-scenes Gordon Elliott stable tour, Liverpool FC match tickets, plus spending money and a signed All-Ireland winning Kerry GAA jersey.

In addition, a wide selection of prizes will be raffled off on the night, giving everyone a chance to take part and support the cause. Food on the evening will be provided by Hogan Farms, with a BBQ running until 10pm. While Muldoon’s Bar will run the bar (cash only). Facilities, stewarding, and parking are all in place to ensure a safe and enjoyable event for all attendees.

Tickets are priced at €25 and are available online via www.ticketstop.ie as well as from selected local shops in Bohermeen and from St Ultan’s GFC members.

The organising committee acknowledge the strong support from local businesses, including donations, signage (sign systems), and event setup. Causey Farm have also pledged their backing with promotional support across their social media platforms plus the use of Rockfield House.

If you’re unable to make it on the night you can donate to this very worthy cause by searching Caolán Smyth on iDonate.ie

The fundraiser is being held to support Caolán and his family through the challenging months to come and a percentage of the monies raised will go towards the Childhood Cancer Ireland charity and St John’s Ward in Crumlin Children’s Hospital. Doors open from 6.30 PM, with music kicking off from 7.30pm including a live set from The Jones and DJ Conor Woods.
