Funeral arrangements made for Jack McIlroy
The Funeral of Jack McIlroy, the young man who lost his life following a workplace accident in Kingscourt, will take place in Nobber on Sunday.
Details of the funeral arrangements for the 25-year-old were announced yesterday evening on RIP.ie.
Jack's remains will repose in his family home in Cluain Beag, Nobber, tomorrow (Saturday) from 2pm-8pm with Funeral Mass to take place in St John the Baptist Church, Nobber, on Sunday at 11.15pm. Burial will take place afterwards in the local cemetery.
The Nobber community is still reeling as it struggles to come to terms with Jack's death following an accident at work on Wednesday.
The only son of Alan and Deirdre (Weldon), his death has deeply shocked the local community and there has been a massive outpouring of sympathy and support for his heartbroken parents.
Widespread tributes have been paid to the 25-year-old who was heavily involved with the local Electro Celtic soccer Club. As well as being a player, he had also been serving as secretary.
In a statement on behalf of the NEFL, secretary Justin Burke said it was with extreme sadness that he was passing on the very sad news of the passing of Electro Celtic Secretary Jack McIlroy following a workplace accident.
Paying tribute to Jack, he said: "Jack was only 25 years old and took on the role of Secretary at his club last year due to his passion for soccer and brought a level of professionalism to the role in his time as Club secretary, and took on many roles within his club.
"Our immediate thoughts and prayers are with his parents Alan and Deirdre, his family, friends, team mates and all at Electro Celtic football club during this sad time."
As a mark of respect, a minute's applause will be observed by all clubs at NEFL fixtures this weekend.
The local Nobber football club also extended its sympathy to Jack's parents in a post on its Facebook page saying: "We are all truly saddened by the sudden passing of Jack McIIroy. Jack will be sadly missed by everyone in the community. Our thoughts and prayers are with Deirdre, Alan,the Weldon and McIlroy families.May Jack rest in peace."
