Navan Garda station receives two new recruits

Two newly attested Gardaí have been deployed to Navan Garda station, strengthening visible policing across the area.

The new gardaí are among 154 recruits who graduated from the Garda College in Templemore last week. This intake represents the largest allocation of probationer gardaí to regions outside Dublin in the past year and reflects the government’s ongoing investment in building stronger, safer communities.

A further 201 Garda recruits will begin training in Templemore this week, while another graduation is scheduled for November, ensuring a steady pipeline of new members entering the organisation

Fianna Fáil TD for Meath West, Aisling Dempsey welcomed the two new recruits and said: “The deployment of additional gardaí is welcome. We are fortunate that every community wants to see more gardaí visible in their area. It is one of the most effective measures we have for preventing crime and making people feel safer.

“More Gardaí on the beat is one of the most effective ways to deter crime and enhance public safety. This latest deployment is a clear signal that government is delivering on its promise to support communities with the resources they need to feel secure.”

However Sinn Féin Cllr Maria White, accused the government of failing to get to grips with what she described as “a recruitment and retention crisis in An Garda Síochána.

Cllr White said while the swearing in of 22 new gardaí to the Eastern region this week was welcome, the impact locally would be minimal.“The Eastern region is made up of ten counties including Meath. An additional 22 gardaí for this vast region still leaves much work to be done in terms of truly boosting Gardaí presence within the area and indeed within Meath.”
