Rounders to take over Dunganny for August
Rounders is set to make its temporary home at the Meath GAA Centre of Excellence in Dunganny this August, with four major events scheduled over the next three weekends.
Following a successful Junior and Intermediate Finals’ day in August 2024, the sport is returning to Meath with a bang.
Rounders is one of the original four GAA sports from the 1884 Charter and has been experiencing a quiet, but steady revival.
In 2025, over 100 teams from all over Ireland entered the All-Ireland Championships for Junior, Intermediate, and Senior adult levels.
Although Meath currently has only two Rounders clubs, Skryne and Rathmolyon, the organisation's National Secretary, Shirley Lennon, is a native of the county and is thrilled to have four of the most prestigious events hosted in Dunganny.
The action kicks off with the Minor finals on Saturday 16th August. Rounders is unique in that it features competitions for ladies, men's, and mixed teams. Teams from Galway, Laois, Cavan, Wexford, and Dublin will travel to Dunganny to compete for the 2025 Minor titles. Last year's champions — Athenry (Ladies) and Wexford's St Martin's (Men's and Mixed) — will be back to defend their crowns.
The Intermediate Adult semi-finals will be played on Sunday 17th August with teams from Galway, Laois, Mayo, Cavan, Wexford, Monaghan and Roscommon vying for a spot in the finals, which will also be held in Dunganny later in the month.
On Sunday 24th August the senior semi-finals will feature the country's top four ladies, men's and mixed teams in battle for places in the senior finals, which are scheduled for 6th September 6 Abbotstown, Dublin.
Teams like Mayo's Breaffy, Wexford's Glynn Barntown and Cavan's Erne Eagles are likely to be strong contenders in all three codes.
Additionally, Carlow's Cuchulainn will compete in the Ladies category, while Monaghan's Carrickmacross Emmets, the 2023 Senior Men's champions, are the favorites to win the Men's title again.
The Junior and Intermediate finals will be held on Sunday 31st August. This most anticipated day of Rounders in Dunganny for 2025 will see six finals decided on one day. The event promises to be a thrilling day of competition as the most talented Junior and Intermediate teams in the country compete for the silverware.
