Meath Swim Team excels at Community Games final

The Meath Swim Team proudly participated in the recent National Community Games held in Kilkenny on July 5th and 6th, showcasing outstanding talent and sportsmanship across various age groups.

Hannah Cassidy secured a gold medal in the Under-16 Backcrawl event, delivering a remarkable performance. Hannah expressed her delight, saying: “I really enjoyed taking part in the Community Games and I am delighted to have won gold for Meath. A big thank you to everyone at Meath Community Games for their support.”

In addition, Abigail King O'Gorman earned a well-deserved bronze in the Under-14 Breaststroke, while Rónán Ó Siadhail achieved a silver medal in the Under-14 Backcrawl. The Ó Siadhail brothers — Rónán, Adhamhnán, and Daire — all competed with tremendous spirit.

Notably, Adhamhnán Ó Siadhail secured a bronze medal in the Under-12 Backcrawl. The brothers shared: “We had a fantastic family weekend. We cheered each other on and are delighted to be bringing home medals to the county.”

Anna O’Leary also made a strong showing, finishing in 4th place in the under-10 Backcrawl event, and Aaron Collins earned a bronze in the Under-10 Freestyle category, demonstrating the depth of talent within the team.

Other finalists included the girls under 13 & 16 relay teams, and Sean Maloney and Harvey English.

Sarah Reilly, Meath Swim Team Manager, emphasised the importance of participation, stating: “Community Games is all about participation. We hope to instil a love of swimming and to engrain the values of good sportsmanship. We are super proud of all our competitors.”

Marion Morris, Secretary of Kells Community Games, also shared her positive outlook: “The results reflect the hard work and dedication of our young athletes. We are incredibly proud of everyone who took part.”
