Television licence payment evasion on view in Court
Evading payment of television licences seems to be on the increase in the Meath area if the Navan District Court list of offenders is anything to go by.
When accused offenders were called on Friday last just one person out of 75 people prosecuted by An Post appeared in court. And that person broke into tears before Judge Eirinn McKiernan who told her not to worry because she had since paid the licence fee she owed to An Post.
Of the 75 viewers, 19 had their cases struck out, which meant that they had paid up since the inspector had called to their home. However, some people owed two years licence - 31 were fined €320 plus €130 costs. Others were fined amounts of €120 with €130 costs.
