Michael and Heather O’Connor from Trim with Bella. Gerry ShanahanThere was a carnival atmosphere in the shadow of the medieval Yellow Steeple overlooking the Boyne last week for Braveheart 5km trail run.
The fine weather left conditions good for running and spectating as over 500 runners took to the fields for the challenge.
The men's race was hotly contested by a trio of George Smee, former winner Peter Somba and the in form Sean Doran with Smee's strength prevailing over the last 200 meters in the stern climb to the finish line.
The battle for overall honours in the women's race was another competitive affair with Susan Glennon from Mullingar Harriers prevailing over Louise Bailey of Na Fianna with third spot going to Kate McCrystal from UCD.
