The last championship meeting of the two sides was in the 2011 All-Ireland SFC Qualifiers and on that occasion, the Royals defeated Galway at Pairc Taileann on a scoreline of 0-11 to 0-10.
Meath topped their group in the All-Ireland SFC series with a sensational round three victory over Kerry in Tullamore to follow their win over Cork in Navan and draw with Roscommon in Hyde Park.
Galway finished second in their group and earned their place in the last eight with a win over Down in the weekend's preliminary quarter-finals.
