Keeley's semi-final play-off heroics follow Irish call-up
The Dunboyne native had a day to remember on Wedensday after he secured a first Republic of Ireland senior call-up and helped Leyton Orient to victory in the League One play-off semi-final
Josh Keeley has had one hell of a season. The Dunboyne man, who turns 22 on Friday, is on loan at Leyton Orient from Tottenham Hotspur. A late, late headed goal in the FA Cup back in December was an extraordinary highlight for the net-minder who has cemented his spot as the club's choice keeper.
However, Keeley's two biggest achievements of the season both came about on the same day. On Wednesday afternoon, news broke that Keeley had received his first senior call-up for the Republic of Ireland for their upcoming friendlies with Senegal and Luxembourg.
The announcement marked the first time the 21-year-old has been called up by his country since last representing the Under-21s in November, with his last cap at that level coming a month prior, in a 2-2 draw with Latvia.
Ireland will play Senegal in the Aviva Stadium on Friday, June 6th, before travelling to Luxembourg the following Tuesday.
Keeley had another reason to celebrate more on Wednesday evening when he helped Leyton Orient to a penalty shoot-out victory over Stockport in a thrilling League One play-off semi-final battle.
In the closing stages of extra time, Keeley produced a stunning save to deny Fraser Horsfall an opportunity to take the glory. Leyton Orient now await the winners of tonight's other semi-final between Charlton Athletic and Wycombe.
The League One play-off final will take place on Sunday, May 25th at Wembley Stadium.
