Boyne Adventure Race back to promote the Boyne Valley38km running, cycling and kayaking challenge returns this August as a fundraiser for Boardsmill GAA Club
The Boyne Adventure Race, a 38km running, cycling and kayaking challenge returns this August for the first time since Covid, having been resurrected as a fundraiser for Boardsmill GAA Club.
The Boyne Adventure Race which takes place on 16th August, is the only multi-sport adventure race of its kind in the Boyne Valley and offers a unique way to explore the offerings in the area. The thrilling race consists of running, cycling and kayaking and begins and ends at the breathtaking Trim Castle.
The event was originally set up to promote Trim and Boyne Valley in a unique way and to embrace adventure, health and wellbeing tourism. The brainchild of Trim Tourism Network, the race ran successfully for three years before Covid suspended its proceedings and the organisers diverted their efforts and attention to helping Ukraine with fleets of transport and aid.
Boardsmill GAA Club recently approached Michael Hughes and David Gorey of Trim Tourism Network to ask if it could be resurrected as a fundraiser for their club and nominated charity partners.
Set out across 38km, this adrenaline-pumping race is set to take participants on an unforgettable journey, featuring a diverse range of heart-racing activities, from running along the historic Trim Castle and the River Boyne, through rugged quarries and deep woods, cycling along countryside roads and completing a thrilling kayak across a lake. The race aims to attract fitness enthusiasts and thrill-seekers from across the country and it aims to test endurance, skill and bravery.
This year, team entries from affiliated sports clubs are also encouraged to enter with the winning team set to receive €1,000 for their own sports club.
“We are thrilled to be running the Boyne Adventure Race and offering participants a one-of-a-kind race experience, and are extremely grateful to Trim Tourism Network for giving us this opportunity” said TJ Reilly, chairperson for Boardsmill GAA Club. “We are particularly excited to encourage team participation which aligns with our club objectives and are looking forward to seeing which team will secure the €1,000 for their sports club.”
Michael Hughes, chairperson Trim Tourism Network said: “We are delighted to see the Boyne adventure race back in action and thrilled to be able to officially transfer ownership to a not-for-profit organisation within the community. It’s a fantastic event for Trim and one we are immensely proud to have founded. We wish Boardsmill club every success with organising the race.”
The race is open to adults of all skill levels, with competitors encouraged to form teams or race solo. All participants will receive a medal on completion and the top scoring sports team entry can win €1,000 for their club. €5 from every entry will go to charity. The Boyne Adventure Race promises to be a fun-filled day of competition, camaraderie, and adventure.
