Dunshaughlin schools stamp their global passport

St Seachnall's stamp their global passport

Students and teachers at Dunshaughlin Community College have earned a national award for their work towards creating a better world.

The Centre for European Schooling - CES received a Global Passport from WorldWise Global Schools at a conference in Dublin’s Iveagh House attended by Deputy Sean Fleming (TD), Minister of State with responsibility for Overseas Development and Diaspora.

The Global Passport recognises the school’s work exploring global issues such as financial justice, fast fashion, food sustainability and climate action.

To earn the passport, students and teachers have studied the root causes of global injustices, raised awareness and taken action as global citizens to create a better future.

Workshops were held for teachers and students on Sustainability and the Sustainable Development Goals. In particular, students took part in a workshop organised by the Rediscovery Centre-the National Centre for Circular Economy- on the topic of food sustainability. Some students conducted research on E-Waste, while others investigated the cycle of plastic waste. They then shared their findings to a wider audience including the members of the Green Team.

Leading the work, Ethics and Language teacher Ginevra Chiozzi Millelire said: “Embracing GCE has been a fascinating journey and we look forward to promoting a better understanding of global justice in our classes and to empowering students and the wider community into positive action”.

After attending the Rediscovery Centre workshop, Third Year student Mencia said: “The workshop was a fun and interactive way for all the students to learn about our World and how to take care of it. We learned about food sustainability

and how we can change the way we act as consumers.”
