Anderson is full of running in hurling country

Young Bohermeen athletes also conjure up memorable performances

Trim AC's Seamus Anderson gave a brilliant display to secure the silver medal position at the Leinster Evan Ages and Novice Cross Country Championships at Ballyhale, Co Kilkenny on Saturday.

A location better know for its hurling teams had athletes of all ages from u-10 up to Novice compete in championships.

Anderson's powerful run earned him second place behind winner Michael Murphy ( Tullamore AC).

The Trim AC runner led the Meath team home helping them to an excellent team silver medal in the county section behind winners Dublin with Kilkenny third. Runners from eight counties competed.

Anderson built on his recent county title with a great run against the best new senior distance runners in the province over a surprisingly well drained course at Mountainview. He will now lead Meath at the Nationals next month.

The other athletes on the Meath team included Niall Cornyn (Dunboyne, eighth; Conor Leech (Na Fianna, 10th); Richie Bell (Fr Murphy, 17th) with two Bohermeen AC runners Alan Clarke (30th) and Damien Hilliard (53rd) also packing well as the team took second place.

Juvenile

Bohermeen athletic club enjoyed a very successful day at the first day of the Leinster Evan Age and Novice Cross-Country Championships which took place in Ballyhale in Kilkenny on Saturday.

Conor Briody won the boys uu-10 non championship race. Kayla Coyne place 4th overall in the girls u-12 race from a field of 121 runners, Tara Hunt placed second in the girls u-14 race and is still eligible for the u-13 event in two weeks’ time.

Cian Briody improved from his fourth place in the Meath championship to place third on Saturday and also making the top ten was Emma Hunt who placed sixth in the u-16 race and led Meath to team gold.

The club had almost 20 juvenile members in action and the girls u-12 team placed fourth from 20 teams taking part, also Bohermeen were represented in the men’s Novice 6k by Damien Hilliard, Conal Courtney and John Carroll, who were part of the Meath team that took silver position behind Dublin the winners of the inter county team event.

The next Leinster championships take place on Saturday 4th November in Dunboyne with the u-9, 11, 13, 15, 17, 19 and senior events.
