Green light for 85 homes in Athboy

Plans by Greenwalk Homes Ltd for a residential development on a site adjacent to The Belfry estate on the Athboy Road in Trim have been given the green light by Meath County Council.

Permission had been sought for 85 homes made up of 73 houses (six two-bedroom homes, 64 three-bedroom homes and three four-bedroom homes which would all be two-storey) and for 12 apartments/duplex apartments in a three storey building.

The 12 duplex units were reduced to 10 units with permission granted for 82 homes altogether

Vehicular/pedestrian access is to be provided from the Athboy Road (R154) via internal roads within ‘The Belfry’ . It was also proposed that the open space of 0.5 hectares would integrate with the existing open space to the north within the Belfry.

Some 51 submissions were made on the plans and a further 11 were made at further information stage.

A wide range of concerns were raised by local residents in their submissions. Among them were traffic safety, noise, impact on residential amenity/overlooking, impact on wastewater system and concerns that the inadequate parking provision in the existing estate would be made worse, impact on light, air and water pollution during construction.
