What is the name of the course you provide?

Introduction to Pizza

How many terms have you been a tutor?

I have recently completed my fourth term tutoring at Adult Education.

What inspired your love for your subject area?

I’ve always loved cooking because it brings people together. Pizza is one of those foods that’s made to be shared around a table with family and friends.

What do you want every learner to experience whilst attending your classes?

The satisfaction and pride of making their own dough and baking their own pizza from scratch.

What impact do you think Adult Education has on the greater community?

I think that Adult Education strengthens communities. It creates welcoming spaces where people can connect, share experiences, and build meaningful relationships while learning together. It empowers individuals to develop new skills, grow in confidence and learn something new.

Did you have any concerns or worries when joining the Adult Education team? If so, how did those concerns and worries change over time?

I thought that there might not be much interest in the course and that it would be difficult to attract people. It has proven to be fairly popular though and there is a great buzz around it. I look forward to each class, as the students’ enthusiasm towards it has made it really rewarding.

What have the students said?

“Karl was a fantastic tutor, it’s clear to see he is very passionate about what he does which is why Karlito’s is the success it is. Keep up the great work Karl.“

“I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of the course. From the moment I met Karl, I knew it would be both fun and engaging. I’ve been making dough as a hobby and wanted to refine my skills. Karl’s knowledge and practical tips—particularly regarding variables like flour type, yeast, kneading techniques, and room temperature—helped me gain a deeper understanding of the science behind dough-making. The most enjoyable part for me was stretching and cooking the pizza.”

“This was a really enjoyable course. Really simple yet useful tips and tricks. Facilitator was very approachable, really enjoyed the course and environment.”

What is the name of the course you provide?

Introduction to Woodwork

How many terms have you been a tutor?

I am almost finished my first term of tutoring in Adult Education.

What inspired your love for your subject area?

I’ve always been keen about working with my hands and the minute I stepped foot in the woodwork class in Dunshaughlin Community College as a student, I just felt like I was in my element and of course I have to praise my former woodworker teachers in Dunshaughlin for showing me the love they also had for woodworking.

What do you want every learner to experience whilst attending your classes?

To experience a new skill and mainly to enjoy their time in adult education.

What impact do you think Adult Education has on the greater community?

I think adult education is brilliant, it’s a great way for people to learn a new skill or even just for something to do after work.

Did you have any concerns or worries when joining the Adult Education team? If so, how did those concerns and worries change over time?

My main concern was that I had given my classes too much work load to complete before the finished date but over time you find that between explaining and helping the students you can really never give them too much to do.

What have the students said?

“Max is very approachable and patient. He makes us feel at easy asking questions and is very reassuring if we make mistakes. I always feel confident leaving the class with what I've learnt.”

“Brilliant, Max is a natural tutor.”

“Simply excellent!”

What is the name of the course you provide?

The Art of Wire Jewellery

How many terms have you been a tutor?

This is my second term tutoring in Adult Education.

What inspired your love for your subject area?

My inspiration stems from Irish Silversmiths creating beautiful works that showcase everything from emotions, to nature, to culture.

What do you want every learner to experience whilst attending your classes?

I would like each of my students to leave my class inspired to create in any form, art is all around us in many forms. My aim is to help students create and enjoy making art - we ignore that voice that says we can't do it.

What impact do you think Adult Education has on the greater community?

I think its an amazing community program, it offers teachable skills for developing ourselves and also offering specialised skills that may not be available anywhere close by. Since I began teaching I have noticed how many of the classes are specialised subjects that aren't facilitated anywhere local, so this gives people of any age an option to unskill or to learn a passion.

Did you have any concerns or worries when joining the Adult Education team? If so, how did those concerns and worries change over time?

I was unsure of how I would find managing freelance teaching of a subject that is a specific niche, but I have recieved great support and such a friendly welcome to the team. The staff and students are always around to help, and no question is too bizarre.

What have the students said?

“Cienna was excellent – truly inspirational, creative, and passionate about wire jewellery. The style of teaching made the class very relaxing and created an environment where you felt completely comfortable to try new ideas. I was always offered extra support and suggestions throughout the course and consistently went the extra mile to help us develop our skills. I found the teaching incredibly motivating and it really inspired my own creativity. I would very much recommend this course to others.”

“Cieanna is truly passionate about her craft. She is very generous with her knowledge and experience. Her classes are enjoyable. The atmosphere is fun and relaxed. She is a natural tutor. I would highly recommend Cienna as a tutor and her class to family/friends.”

“We had a fantastic teacher who went above and beyond. Loved the course , tutor and peers. I learnt so much. I came away delighted . I must put the work in as I was distracted . But it has inspired me to be creative and I have all the tools and information and some of the skills. Great course and great tutor. 10/10. Thank you so much.”

What is the name of the course you provide?

Pickleball for Beginners & Pickleball for Improvers

How many terms have you been a tutor?

I am approaching the end of my second term in Adult Education.

What inspired your love for your subject area?

I've been playing pickleball for a number of years as well as competing both at home and abroad.

It's become my physical outlet, my social circle, and now also my business since last year myself and my fiancée set up Prism Pickleball to be a retail and coaching hub for pickleball in Ireland.

Introducing people to the game is incredible, second only to helping people grow towards their goals in the sport. It dovetails very well with our retail business where we work to ensure people get fitted with equipment that suits their style of play (and sometimes their colour preferences too).

What do you want every learner to experience whilst attending your classes?

Pickleball is an extremely approachable sport. I've introduced both my parents, almost all my friends have played at some point, and in our club we have members aged from 18 to 82!

It's really only as physically demanding as you wish to make it and many times the wiser player can outwit the more athletic one.

My beginner class aims to allow everyone to get up and playing to a level where they could join a local club and play socially.

My improver course is for those who's goal is to grow and improve (and maybe compete too) and is a bit more individually focused to really help people hone in on the finer details of the game.

What impact do you think Adult Education has on the greater community?

I think the adult education programme is fantastic for putting so many options in front of the community. There are courses that I wouldn't have thought about before that, upon seeing them, really struck me as interesting (unfortunately they clash with my class!).

Personal development is an important thing for me personally, so I really like to see it be more accessible to more people to continue to grow and learn new things.

Did you have any concerns or worries when joining the Adult Education team? If so, how did those concerns and worries change over time?

I was concerned with how much influence over my course content the adult education programme would want to have.

Totally to their credit they looked to me for content, class size, and anything else I needed to run the class. I was quite strict on the size of class that I could reasonably handle, and after reviewing the first term, they agreed to fund the class for additional help. This allows me to pay for help to instruct the class, meaning everyone gets more feedback and more direct instruction, which the students really benefit from.

It's not been all smooth sailing but the team running the programme are always willing to work with me to see how we can best support the courses, which I appreciate, and it gives me confidence that they're giving each course their full support.

What have the students said?

“Jordan was great, obviously loves what he does and wants you to too. Over the 10 weeks I learned basic techniques, strategy and really enjoyed each week. I will definitely be back next term.”

“Excellent, friendly, inclusive and learning a lot.”

“Our instructor Jordan O'Brien is so enthusiastic and attentive to everyone whatever their ability.”

“Excellent. Jordan has been clear and concise with his training and it's always a lot of fun. He has been instrumental in setting up the new club too.”
