Dunboyne artist to showcase work at RDS art fair this weekend
An award-winning Dunboyne artist is set to showcase her work at one of Ireland’s leading contemporary art events this weekend.
Clare O’Connor, a multi-disciplinary artist and designer, will exhibit a new body of work at Art Evolve, taking place at the RDS in Dublin from March 27th to 29th.
Originally trained as a graphic designer, O’Connor returned to education in 2006 to pursue a more creative path, graduating in Visual Arts Practice from IADT in 2009. Her work has since evolved into a distinctive abstract style, characterised by bold colour, layered forms and a strong sense of movement and energy.
Following her studies, she gained international experience working with prominent artists in Berlin and Venice, including at the Venice Biennale. Her work has since been exhibited across Ireland, Germany, Italy, the United States, China and the UK.
O’Connor’s practice centres on intuitive painting, combining vivid colour palettes, neon tones, stripes and layered compositions to create what she describes as “visual labyrinths”. A body of work developed during her time living in Venice, titled Navigating the Labyrinth, reflects her interest in the subconscious and the ways in which people navigate daily life.
In addition to her painting practice, she also runs a wearable art brand, launched in 2018, translating her artwork into a range of products including prints, textiles and homeware.
Her work has also been recognised locally, with Meath County Council acquiring six of her paintings for its Arts Collection. She is currently serving as Associate Artist in Visual Arts in Meath for 2025/26 with the Meath Arts Office.
O’Connor recently completed a two-week residency at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre in Monaghan, where she developed a new series of paintings which will be unveiled at the upcoming RDS event.
Visitors to Art Evolve can expect to see a wide range of her work on display, including abstract paintings, framed paper works, limited edition prints, resin art tables and cushions.
Now in its second year, Art Evolve is described as Ireland’s newest contemporary art fair, bringing together leading galleries and artists from across the country in a celebration of modern artistic expression.
Looking ahead, O’Connor plans to continue exhibiting throughout 2026, with further group shows and an appearance at Art Source later in the year.
