Shannon Homes to lodge plan with council for 80 residential units and garden in Bettystown
An unfinished apartment block in Bettystown, which has been an eyesore for well over a decade, could finally be completed with news that Shannon Homes is to lodge a proposal to finish it.
The apartment development, as it stands, is little more than a concrete shell and is the last remaining building eyesore building in Bettystown Square.
Christabelle Grimes, of Shannon Homes, has confirmed that their company will lodge a proposal with Meath County Council for 80 apartments with a new community green open space, and a large creche facility.
"The construction will involve demolishing the existing building’s central core to create an attractive courtyard amenity surrounded by modern A3 rating residential units, and we compliment our architects, Oppermann Associates, who have thoughtfully managed to create these apartments within the existing building’s footprint," said Christabelle.
"We are now hoping the community will be fully supportive of our application.
If permission is to be granted in July/August, a phased programme of work will commence before year-end, with a build-out time of 18 months to two years to completion.
"There is a very strong demand for apartments in this excellent location with its high-quality amenities, including Bettystown Beach, whilst some of the residences will, of course, have sea views. We have worked with Meath County Council over the last number of months to bring this development to reality."
Work on the complex began but was never completed when the post-Celtic Tiger recession hit. The unfinished apartment block had been entered on Meath County Council's Derelict Sites Register in October 2025 but has since been removed from the list on foot of this proposal to complete the complex.
Established in 1970, Shannon Homes has been synonymous with fine residential developments over the last 30 years.
