Death of Joan Delany, wife of Olympian Ronnie

Marie Brady, wife of Liam, passes away in Bohermeen

The death has occurred of Joan Delany, two days after the funeral of her husband, Olympian, Ronnie. She died on Wednesday at the Blackrock Clinic, Dublin.

In August 1962, Ronnie married Joan Mary Riordan “his second gold medal”, his son Ronnie Jnr said, in a eulogy at Monday's funeral.

Joan was unable to be at Monday's funeral, but as he neared the end, his father had asked him to tell her “that he loved her, that she made his life the happiest possible, that he adored her and loved her every day, and thanked her for loving him and spending her life with him; and thank her for his beautiful children and grandchildren, and great grand daughter.”

A kind and loving presence in the lives of all who knew her, Joan will be remembered always for her beauty, warmth, grace and quiet strength.

She is survived by their family, Lisa, Ronnie, Jennie and Michelle (Mimi), 15 grandchildren and great-granddaughter, sons-in-law and daughter-in-law, sisters Pat and Sally, nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours and her wide circle of loyal friends.

She was predeceased by her sister, Ann and brother, Brian.

Joan is reposing at Massey Bros Funeral Home, Blackrock, this evening Friday 20th March from 5pm to 6pm. Removal on Saturday morning (21st March) to St Brigid’s Church, Cabinteely, arriving for 11am Requiem Mass, followed by a private cremation service.

In Bohermeen, the death has occurred of Marie Brady of Greetiagh, just over a month after the passing of her husband, Liam.

She died peacefully this morning at Our Lady’s Hospital, Navan.

Predeceased by her husband Liam, son Derek, parents Joe and Lily Harte and her brother PJ, Marie will be very sadly missed by her daughter Susan, sons Alan and David, grandchildren Arran, Chris, Ryan, Sophie, Erica, Derek and Senan, daughters-in-law Caroline and Julie, brothers Liam and Jimmy, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She is reposing at St Joseph’s Chapel of Rest, Old Johnstown, Navan (C15 C425) on Saturday from 3pm-6pm, arriving to St Ultan’s Church, Bohermeen on Sunday afternoon for Funeral Mass at 2pm (livestream). Burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
