Judge asks if its ‘No Insurance day’ as cases against motorists stack up

The succession of summonses in a long list that involved motorists summonsed for not being insured prompted Judge Michael Connellan to ask was it a “no insurance day.”

Judge Connellan presided in place of resident Judge Eirinnn McKiernan at Tuesday’s sitting of Trim District Court.

A large proportion of those before him on the summons list were prosecuted for not having insurance cover.

He imposed driving bans of two years and four years on offenders with previous convictions for not having insurance, plus fines as high as €1,000.

In cases of first time offenders he handed out fines ranging from €100 to €1,000.
